To install the "Giant Clams." CD:

In order to run the CD it depends if you have the Microsoft Powerpoint program on your computer, but if you do not

have this program there is a Powerpoint Viewer 97 program to download.

A. If you do have Powerpoint on your computer, then:

    1. If your computer operates with Windows XP or Windows 97, then   double click on Giant Clams.pps .

From here, the Powerpoint slide show will open and  a voice introduction will start on the first slide. After

this, just click the left mouse button to move on to new slides and text boxes.

B. If you do not have the Powerpoint program on your computer, then, on the D:\ drive:

   1. Double click on the icon for ppview97.exe [2,789 KB application] first in order to install this onto the C:\ drive of

your computer. Once installed, you can then click on the icon for "Giant Clams.pps" to start the slide show.

Windows 95 will also operate with the ppview97.exe in place.

The use of the left button on the mouse is the same as described above under A. 1.

    2. If you prefer to use the web archive version   [.html format] then double click on the button or icon for "Giant clams

webarchive.mht" .  When the webarchive version appears it will display the first slide, but there is a column on the left

showing the slide numbers and the text that goes with the photograph(s) for all the slides.  On the right hand below

the slide photograph you will see an icon for 'Slide Show'.  Click this icon for the slide show to take up the whole screen

and to begin the show.  The web archive slide show is a little more limited than the Powerpoint program slide

show because the sound (wave file) will sound only when the sound icon is clicked on the slide.

If you have problems with sound:

If, after installing the CD, you cannot hear the spoken introduction or heading for each slide, or you see a message such as

'Cannot Open Wave File' then you may need to install a WAV file driver. See your Windows manual for installation instructions.

We have also included the .wav files on the CD which are used with the slide show [CD2 Start.wav ]

If you have problems with colour:

If, after starting the CD, the photographs look very dark or patchy your computer most likely is not running a 256 colour VGA driver.

The CD photographs are best with a VGA driver with 640 x 480 pixel support and 256 colours.
